Added to UFC 291
Vergara will take on Vinicius Salvador in a flyweight matchup at UFC 291 on July 29 in Salt Lake City, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Vergara is an even 2-2 in the UFC and coming off a stoppage victory over Daniel Lacerda in March that earned FOTN honors. He'll take on a relative newcomer in Salvador, who got his shot via Contender Series but dropped his debut in March to Victor Altamirano via decision. Both appear to be high-volume strikers (albeit a small sample size), while Salvador will hold slight advantages in both height and reach.

Comeback win in hometown
Vergara defeated Daniel Lacerda via TKO (punches) at 4:04 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 43 on Saturday in San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
In desperate need of a rebound performance on the heels of his first-round submission loss (in addition to missing weight) to Tatsuro Taira last October, Vergara appeared to be well on his way to another near-immediate stoppage loss. He was battered by Lacerda throughout Round 1, being knocked down on two separate occasions. He somehow managed to survive the frame before turning the tide on his opponent in Round 2. Vergara managed to find a second wind, which combined with Lacerda fading, was enough to earn him the win after countless unanswered strikes from a dominant position. The comeback win will also earn Vergara an extra $50,000 after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors. The very definition of roster depth, the 31-year-old Texan has now alternated wins and losses in his first four UFC bouts.

Fighting Daniel da Silva
Vergara will take on Daniel Da Silva in a flyweight fight at UFC San Antonio on March 25, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Both fighters have made just three UFC appearances, and neither has had much success. Vergara is the only one of the pair with a victory, as he beat Kleydson Rodrigues by split decision in May, though he's coming off a submission defeat against Tatsuro Taira in his most recent fight.

Not competitive after weight miss
Vergara lost to Tatsuro Taira via submission (armbar) at 4:19 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's been a disastrous past 36 hours for Vergara. He missed weight by three pounds Friday morning, forfeited 30 percent of his fight purse to Taira in order for the fight to continue and was still dominated from bell to bell. Vergara was able to get nothing going offensively and spent the vast majority of the bout being controlled by the underrated Taira on the mat. Between the weight miss and the fact he's now lost two of his first three UFC bouts, the 31-year-old Texan could very easily find himself on the chopping block in the not-too-distant future.
