Destroyed by Roman Kopylov
MiddleweightUFC
July 29, 2023
Ribeiro lost to Roman Kopylov via KO (head kick) at 0:33 of Round 2 at UFC 291 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
This fight was as even as you will ever see up until the finish. Both men finished with 32 significant strikes. Both men landed countless damaging blows in Round 1. Unfortunately for Ribeiro, he got blasted with a head kick early in the second frame that landed flush. It was clear as day he was done, but Kopylov got off a follow-up shot before referee Marc Goddard could step in. The sample size is small, but in three UFC bouts (1-2), Ribeiro looks like a power-puncher with limited fight IQ and questionable secondary skills. It's not a package that typically leads to extended success with the company.

Ribeiro defeated Joseph Holmes via TKO (punches) at 3:21 of Round 2 at UFC 288 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
ANALYSIS
It will go down as by far the most lucrative evening of Ribeiro's professional career, as he will not only pick up his show and win bonus, but will also walk away with 20 percent of Holmes' purse after the latter missed weight by three pounds on Friday morning. It took Ribeiro about a round to find his range, but once he did, Holmes was finished. Claudio nearly pounded out his opponent in the final seconds of Round 1, only to see Holmes saved by the bell. He closed the show for good in Round 2 after landing a huge knee and some massive follow-up shots. It was a much-needed bounce-back performance from Ribeiro on the heels of his second-round knockout loss to Abdul Razak Alhassan in his UFC debut this past January.

Knocked out in UFC debut

Ribeiro lost to Abdul Razak Alhassan via KO (punches) at 0:28 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Making his UFC debut on the heels of his 25-second knockout victory over Ivan Valenzuela on Dana White's Contender Series last August, Ribeiro struggled in his official company debut. He began the fight by landing a handful of vicious leg kicks on Alhassan, but he spent the vast majority of Round 1 being controlled by his opponent along the fence. Ribeiro ate a couple big shots early in Round 2 which seemed to compromise him, eventually allowing Alhassan to corner him along the fence and close the show. It was the first knockout defeat of the Brazilian's 13-fight pro career.
