Struggles continue in Vegas
FeatherweightUFC
April 13, 2024
Holm lost to Kayla Harrison via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:47 of Round 2 at UFC 300 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Very few thought Holm would be winning this fight, and understandably so, but her decision to actively seek grappling exchanges with Harrison was nothing short of mind-blowing. To Holly's credit, she did actually reverse Kayla right after the two hit the mat, but the end result was Holm absorbing 51 significant strikes before being mercifully choked out early in Round 2. Holly will be 43 years of age this coming October. She's theoretically 1-2 (1NC) in her past four fights, but the no contest was a submission loss to Mayra Bueno Silva before the result was changed. With just a single victory on her resume dating back to October 2020, Holm's time appears to be just about up. Even Dana White called for her retirement in the post-fight press conference.

Set to fight Harrison
FeatherweightUFC
January 23, 2024
Holm will fight Kayla Harrison at UFC 300 on April 13, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
With her loss to Mayra Bueno Silva getting overturned to a no-contest, Holm has lost just one fight since 2020. The 42-year-old Holm will be welcoming Harrison to the UFC in April, although Harrison will enter with an impressive 16-1 professional record accumulated under the banner of PFL. Harrison is a former Olympic judo medalist who brings a wrestling-based approach to MMA, though Holm does have a respectable 78 percent takedown defense. Holm is far and away the better standup fighter, but staying upright against a fighter like Harrison will be a challenge. One thing in Holm's favor is that this bout will allegedly be contested at bantamweight, while Harrison hasn't ever even made featherweight in her UFC career, contesting the entirety of her PFL bouts at lightweight (155 pounds).
Previous fight's result reversed

October 17, 2023
Holm's submission loss against Mayra Bueno Silva has been reversed to a no-contest, per Shaheen Al-Shatti of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Bueno Silva tested positive for a banned substance the week of her fight against Holm. After nearly two months of deliberations, the Nevada Athletic Commission overturned Holm's loss, improving her record from 15-7 to 15-6 with one no-contest.
Crushing main event defeat
FeatherweightUFC
July 15, 2023
Holm lost to Mayra Bueno Silva via submission (standing guillotine) at 0:38 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 49 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing defeat for Holm and one that essentially derails any potential hope of her getting back in the title picture at 135 pounds. Holly likely won Round 1 on the strength of volume in the striking game, but it didn't feel comfortable. Bueno Silva was loading up on her shots, and Holm didn't seem to be seeing them particularly well. Holly tried for a takedown early in Round 2, but left her neck exposed in the process. It was a lazy attempt, and Bueno Silva made her pay for it. Holm will be 42 years of age this coming October. She's just 3-3 in her past half-dozen bouts dating back to July 2019. The long-term upside here is essentially non-existent at this point. It's just the second submission loss of Holm's career. The first came against Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in March 2016.
Scheduled to face Silva
FeatherweightUFC
May 10, 2023
Holm will fight Mayra Bueno Silva in a bantamweight bout at a UFC Event on July 15 in Abu Dhabi, per MMA Mania.
ANALYSIS
Holm is Silva's new opponent after Miesha Tate was initially scheduled to fight. Holm is coming off a win over Yana Santos via unanimous decision in March. She'll try to stifle the much younger Silva's winning streak at three matches.
Dominates Yana Santos
FeatherweightUFC
March 25, 2023
Holm defeated Yana Santos via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 43 on Saturday in San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
It was Holm's best performance in ages. It took Holly about a round to get things going, but once she did, Santos was done. We all know Holm is a striker by trade, but she won this fight on the strength of her grappling. She landed 4-of-6 takedowns in the bout, good for 9:49 worth of control time. In fact, Holly was credited with 9:08 worth of control time in the final two rounds alone. It was going to be difficult or Santos to win a decision since she only had 52 seconds to work with over the course of the final ten minutes. It's still difficult to believe Holly is going to go on any sort of run considering she's due to turn 42 years of age this coming October, but this was a very strong performance.
