Retires following latest loss
Avila lost to Jacqueline Cavalcanti via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Avila announced her retirement following the fight. This was very much the expected resulted given Julia entered as the largest underdog on the card at +550. She was simply unable to match the hand speed of Cavalcanti in what was primarily a kickboxing match. The 36-year-old ends her UFC run with a 3-3 mark in six fights with the company. Her best win was a unanimous decision over Pannie Kianzad, which came way back in July 2019.

ANALYSIS

Dominated in return from layoff
Avila lost to Miesha Tate via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:15 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
ANALYSIS
Outside of an immediate stoppage loss, it's impossible to be any less competitive than Avila -- a -135 favorite -- was in this fight. Displaying dreadful takedown defense and zero idea of how to defend on the mat, Avila was grounded for 10:55 in a fight that lasted a shade over 11 minutes. If the defeat wasn't bad enough, this is going to provide a blue print for every single one of Avila's opponents moving forward in regards to how to go about attacking her. Yes, she had been sidelined since June 2021 due to a knee injury, but now 35 years of age, Avila is going to have a very difficult time overcoming this setback.

ANALYSIS
Avila will be looking to carry the momentum from her submission of Julija Stoliarenko back in June. That came following a loss to Sijara Eubanks in September of 2020. Pennington is coming off a unanimous decision win just a couple weeks ago.
