Hints at another comeback fight
WelterweightUFC
January 8, 2024
Brown has requested a fight at UFC 300 on April 13 in Las Vegas, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown has already been in and out of retirement, as his first attempt to hang up the gloves came after a November 2017 victory over Diego Sanchez. He later changed his mind and came back for another UFC run, going 3-3 and capping it off with an impressive first-round finish over Court McGee last May. It sounds like he's ready to give it another go for a one-off fight at the iconic event -- an idea the UFC is apparently receptive to, but doesn't officially have an opponent in mind just yet.

Throwback performance in win
WelterweightUFC
May 13, 2023
Brown defeated Court McGee via KO (punch) at 4:09 of Round 1 at UFC on ABC 4 on Saturday in Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
With the win, Brown ties Derrick Lewis for the most knockout victories in UFC history, with thirteen. Brown's athleticism and durability -- particularly on the mat -- have all but vanished at age 42, but his power remains legitimate, as does Matt's willingness to stand in the pocket and battle it out with his opposition. "The Immortal" one simply doesn't move well enough these days to put together any prolonged winning streak, but Brown is still capable of some highlight-reel efforts such as this one, as long as the UFC is careful regarding who they match him up against moving forward. A bout against an opponent such as McGee was smart matchmaking. Brown has alternated wins and losses in his past four fights. He'll also take home one of five $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses that were awarded Saturday afternoon.
Fight on tap with Court McGee

February 14, 2023
Brown (23-19-0) announced Tuesday that he's scheduled to face Court McGee (21-11-0) in a welterweight bout at the UFC's May 13 event in Las Vegas, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In his return to the Octagon for the first time in more than a year after he lost to Bryan Barberena via split decision back in March 2022, Brown will be looking to tie the UFC record for most career knockouts (13). McGee, meanwhile, saw two-fight winning streak come to an end in his last trip to the Octagon last June, when he suffered a first-round loss to Jeremiah Wells via left hook.
Drops decision in wild brawl

March 26, 2022
Brown lost to Bryan Barberena via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
ANALYSIS
Brown won't be happy about the result, but the $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus he seems near certain to receive should make him feel a bit better (later confirmed by UFC President Dana White). This was arguably one of the best bouts of 2022 to date. Both men unloaded everything but the kitchen sink on each other, and both men had their opposition in such bad shape at times that there was a case to be made for both men to win. Brown's main issue was how poorly he finished. He started quickly, but Barberena picked up momentum as the fight progressed, and Brown was in dire straits in the closing moments of the bout. "The Immortal" isn't any sort of real contender at age 41, so a highly entertaining, back-and-forth bout seems likely a best-case scenario for Brown at this point. The Ohio native should be proud of the showing he put forth in his home state despite the setback.
Barberena bout rescheduled

January 6, 2022
Brown will take on Bryan Barberena in Columbus on March 26, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
The pair had previously been scheduled to square off in early December, but Brown had to pull out after testing positive for COVID-19. The 40-year-old Brown will be looking to record his second straight win and reverse a trend that saw him lose seven out of 10 matches prior to his knockout victory over Dhiego Lima in June.
Tests positive for COVID-19
WelterweightUFC
November 23, 2021
Brown revealed via his personal Twitter page that he has tested positive for Covid-19 and his fight against Bryan Barberena net Saturday is off.
ANALYSIS
Brown's positive test is an unfortunate development as his fight was booked just over two months ago. He will need to isolate himself but did say he's already feeling a lot better than he did over the weekend. The UFC has yet to officially comment as to whether they will reschedule the fight altogether or try and find Barberena a new opponent.
