Polyana Viana

Dama de Ferro

Brazil

Taken out by Gillian Robertson
StrawweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Viana lost to Gillian Robertson via TKO (punches) at 3:12 of Round 2 at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Although it goes down in the books as a knockout defeat, Viana lost this fight because her grappling didn't hold up. She allowed Robertson to land both of her takedown attempts, good for 6:06 worth of control time in a fight that lasted just over eight minutes. The Brazilian fought off a submission attempt in Round 1 before eventually getting stopped with repeated unanswered blows about midway through Round 2. Now 1-3 in her past four fights, Viana likely needs a win her next time out in order to save her job.

Robertson next up
StrawweightUFC
October 11, 2023
Viana will compete against Gillian Robertson in a strawweight fight at UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Viana will try to bounce back in 2024. 2023 was a relatively disappointing year for her career-wise. Viana was expected to fight Emily Ducote, but she withdrew not long after her bout was already rescheduled. Viana fought once during the year, finishing with a loss to Iasmin Lucindo.
Inconsistent ways continue
StrawweightUFC
August 12, 2023
Viana lost to Iasmin Lucindo via submission (arm triangle) at 3:42 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 51 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Viana lost this fight about midway through Round 1. She landed a takedown on Lucindo and was in great shape to land some damage from top position, but her inactivity forced referee Chris Tognoni to (correctly) stand the women up, and Viana never threatened again offensively. She gave up a takedown to Lucindo late in the first frame and then again early in Round 2 before tapping out to an arm-triangle choke. Viana is 3-2 in her past five fights, which may not seem like anything to write home about, but is pretty darn good considering she lost three in a row prior to that run.
Slated to fight Lucindo
StrawweightUFC
June 2, 2023
Viana will take on Iasmin Lucindo in a strawweight bout at a UFC event on Aug. 12 in Las Vegas, MMAFighting.com reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
After two straight cancelled bouts, Viana finally gets to return to the octagon. Her last fight came in November, when she disposed of Jihn Yu Frey with hooks in the first round. Now, she'll take on Iasmin Lucindo, who defeated Brogan Walker via unanimous decision back in April.
Out of UFC Vegas 73
StrawweightUFC
May 5, 2023
Viana will no longer fight Emily Ducote at UFC Vegas 73 on May 20 for an undisclosed reason, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The reason Viana has to back out is unknown at this time, but Lupita Godinez will take her place. The bout was originally schedule for April 29, but was subsequently pushed back to May 20 before this decision. It remains to be seen when she will fight again.
Ducote fight re-scheduled
StrawweightUFC
April 20, 2023
Viana will fight Emily Ducote at UFC Vegas 73 on May 20, according to Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Initially scheduled for April 29, the Viana-Ducote fight will be pushed back three weeks to the following UFC Vegas card. No reason has been given for the fight's changed date.
