Routed after weight miss
FeatherweightUFC
September 9, 2023
Young lost to Gabriel Miranda via submission (rear-naked choke) at 0:59 of Round 1 at UFC 293 on Saturday in Sydney, Australia.
ANALYSIS
The past 36 hours have been utterly disastrous for Young. He missed weight by nearly four pounds on Friday morning and had to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Miranda in order for the fight to proceed. Once the bell rang, he gave up an immediate takedown and was quickly choked out. Oh, it's also Young's fourth straight defeat. It will be shocking if we see the 30-year-old Kiwi inside the Octagon again.

Scheduled for oceanic fight
FeatherweightUFC
July 19, 2023
Young will fight Gabriel Miranda in a lightweight bout at UFC 293 in Sydney on Sept. 9, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Young, born in New Zealand, will fight in nearby Australia for his next fight. This is not the first time the UFC has given him a fight in Australia. He is 1-2 in the country, with each of his three results happening by decision. Young's next opponent is unlikely to want this fight going all the way, considering each of his 16 wins were finishes.
Losing streak hits three

Young lost to Blake Bilder via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 284 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Young looked pretty good for most of this fight. He and Bilder fought to even terms in Round 1 before the latter landed a late takedown which secured the frame. He was the better man in Round 2, but Bilder really picked up the pace on the feet in Round 3, and Young was unable to keep up. The better effort aside, Young has now lost three fights in a row dating back to September 2020. The 29-year-old Kiwi drops to 2-4 in six UFC bouts, including a loss to Alexander Volkanovski in his company debut in November 2017. There's no guarantee another opportunity will be forthcoming.
Returning in February

December 28, 2022
Young (lower leg) will face Blake Bilder in a featherweight matchup at UFC 284 on Feb. 11, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Young hasn't fought since March of 2021, when he lost to Omar Morales via unanimous decision at UFC 260. He received a medical suspension afterward due to left tibia/fibula injuries but will be back in action in February. He'll face Bilder, who is making his UFC debut after defeating Alexander Morgan via submission (rear-naked choke) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series in August. Young and Bilder are even in height, but Young has an advantage in reach.
Faces medical suspension
FeatherweightUFC
March 29, 2021
Young has been suspended six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending medical clearance for left tibia/fibula injuries, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Young apparently suffered a lower leg injury during his loss to Omar Morales via unanimous decision at UFC 260 on Saturday. He'll undergo an X-ray to determine the severity of the issue. If the X-ray is positive, he'll be unable to fight for six months unless he's cleared by a doctor.
