David Gilliland

Has shifted more to the ownership side of this sport over the past two seasons. However, that doesn't rule out the possibility of Gilliland making an odd start here or there. His racing days are largely behind him, but he can still be very competitive behind the wheel when he chooses to race.

Made just two starts last season in his own DGR-Crosley truck. Could see similar limited schedule again in 2020.

Now more of a team owner than racer, Gilliland still made some spot starts in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series in 2018. He racked up three Top-5 finishes in just five starts split between his own race team and a Kyle Busch Motorsports' truck. Gilliland hasn't announced any racing plans for 2019, but it wouldn't at all be surprising to see him get behind the wheel a few times and mix it up with the young drivers of this racing series.

Front Row Motorsports is scaling back from three to two teams from last season, and it appears that Gilliland's No. 38 team may be the one on the chopping block. The 10-year veteran had an unspectacular 2015 season and finished the worst in the driver standings (32nd) since 2010. Gilliland's average finish position dropped over one-half a point and he failed to register a top-10 finish for the second-straight season. He enters a tough free agent market that has names like David Ragan, Brian Vickers and Sam Hornish Jr. in it. The opportunities to land a ride will be very slim despite his over 300 starts of Sprint Cup Series experience.

He returns for his fourth season of competition with Front Row Motorsports. Gilliland has been with this three-car stable since it’s inception in 2010 and has been working hard to move up the standings ever since. Progress has been hard to measure for this driver and team. Gilliland was held without a Top-10 finish in the 2012 season and that’s concerning. This driver and team usually perform best on the super speedways, but he didn’t even post a Top 10 in those four events. Gilliland will work hard to improve in the upcoming season and that starts with the super speedway event at Daytona in February. His Daytona 500 performance could easily set the pace for the remainder of the 2013 season.
