Ellis comes over from the No. 43 team of owner Tommy Joe Martins and takes over the seat of the No. 71 Chevrolet of DGM Racing. Last season Ellis earned a career-high points finish of 23rd-place with seven Top-20 finishes. The 35-year-old driver now has over 130 starts in this division of NASCAR and he's still seeking his first-career Top 10. Ellis will look to log that first Top 10 with a capable DGM Racing squad. This team collected six combined Top 10's between their two cars and multiple drivers, so there's plenty of upside here. We don't have any word on who will be crew chief of this team, but they have a full sponsorship lineup and appear to be well funded for the 2025 campaign. The veteran driver returns to the car that he drove most of the time last season. Ellis made 31 of the 33 events, only ceding his seat for some road courses and one superspeedway start. He would collect three Top-15 finishes and register 25th in the driver standings of 2024. For a driver who's competed in 11 different Xfinity Series seasons, surprisingly, this was just Ellis' first full campaign. It's not been announced but it is expected that he would continue on with Mike Brandt at crew chief. The two worked together last season and have now established some chemistry and communication. The No. 43 Chevrolet team is likely looking at a very similar performance to last year in the upcoming season.
Alpha Prime is expanding to three cars in 2023 and they've signed Ellis to drive their No. 43 entry. Ellis competed part-time for this team last season, making 11 starts and earning five Top-20 finishes and a 22.9 average finish for the campaign. He gets the promotion to a near full-time slate of 24 or more starts in the No. 43 Chevrolet in 2023. Sponsorship has lined up behind the effort and will put Ellis in as many races as they can in the upcoming season. Intermediate ovals appear to be this driver and team's strength, so Ellis holds some fantasy racing value on those style tracks.
