Joe Willock Injury: Not too far from return

Willock (calf) is nearing a return for Newcastle but will miss Saturday's season opener against Aston Villa, coach Eddie Howe said in the press conference. "Everyone is available apart from Joe [Willock], and he's not too far away himself. We have a relatively good looking squad in terms of injury news."

Willock is close to making his return with the squad after recovering from a calf injury suffered during the pre-season. He is expected to be assessed next week to determine his progress and when he can be available for the Magpies. That said, he is likely to remain a depth option once fully fit, so his absence does not impact the starting XI.
