Injury Calf
Est. Return 8/30/2025

Not too far from return
Willock (calf) is nearing a return for Newcastle but will miss Saturday's season opener against Aston Villa, coach Eddie Howe said in the press conference. "Everyone is available apart from Joe [Willock], and he's not too far away himself. We have a relatively good looking squad in terms of injury news."
ANALYSIS
Willock is close to making his return with the squad after recovering from a calf injury suffered during the pre-season. He is expected to be assessed next week to determine his progress and when he can be available for the Magpies. That said, he is likely to remain a depth option once fully fit, so his absence does not impact the starting XI.

Should return early September
Willock (calf) is expected to return in early September, according to manager Eddie Howe. "We initially feared he could have injured part of his Achilles, but thankfully that wasn't the case. But it looks like he's got a problem with a muscle in the calf. So we feel the injury isn't as serious as maybe first feared, which is great news for Joe, but it's still going to keep him out for a number of weeks. How many we're not sure, but early diagnosis is looking four to six, which, although being a blow, is probably much better than the initial thought."

Stretchered off in preseason
Willock was stretchered off the field in a preseason match due to an apparent serious ankle injury, according to manager Eddie Howe, per Craig Hope of The Daily Mail. "I don't have a major update yet, but it didn't look great on the pitch. But at this moment, it doesn't look like a major, major injury. And fingers crossed it's not, because Joe has suffered enough. Hopefully he's ok."

Dealing with thigh problem
Willock is dealing with a thigh problem and it's unclear whether he'll be available for the final two games of the season, manager Eddie Howe told media Sunday following the 2-0 win over Chelsea. "Kieran [Trippier] has a calf problem and Joe has a thigh problem. They're both similar injuries. We don't think they're serious but we don't know if we'll see them before the end of the season."

Crystal Palace showing interest
Crystal Palace are interested in signing Willock, according to The Chronicle Live.
ANALYSIS
Willock is dealing with a minor thigh injury, but that shouldn't impact him on a long-term basis. The central midfielder has been relegated to a secondary role at Newcastle, and he'd be interested in pursuing a move to Crystal Palace, as he would have a bigger chance of seeing regular minutes, particularly if Adam Wharton departs the club in the summer.
