Makoto Hasebe
41-Year-Old
Free Agent

Set to retire
Hasebe announced Wednesday that he would be retiring at the end of the season.
ANALYSIS
Hasebe has finally decided to call it quits as he is prepared to hang up the boots at the end of the season at the age of 40. The defender served in the J1 league of Japan before making his transfer to the Bundesliga, playing for three dirrent German teams while accumulating over 380 appearances over his time in Germany. He served the bulk of his career in Frankfurt, having played with the team since 2014, reaching three DFB Pokal finals and one Europa Cup final while with the club, and now ending his time as a professional footballer with the team. His retirement should come as no suprise, as he is getting up there in age and only featured in 11 matches this campaign.

Could remain at Frankfurt
Frankfurt want to extend Hasebe's contract, according to Sky Sports Deutschland.
ANALYSIS
The Bundesliga side want to keep the veteran Japan international around, and in fact, they've offered the 38-year-old a one-year contract extension with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2023. "That's up to Makoto," Krosche said when asked about the possibility of an extension. "We discussed that he should decide whether he wants to continue playing or not. That's entirely up to him. If Makoto says he wants to continue playing for another year, then he keeps playing."
