Ernst excelled across his one and only appearance of the 2022-23 Bundesliga, during which he saved 87.5 percent of on-goal shots logged by VfL Wolfsburg. He spent the entire season serving as the backup to Oliver Christensen, a young goalkeeper who is expected to continue being Hertha BSC Berlin's No. 1 option if he stays put.
