Keeps clean sheet for Japan
Suzuki kept a clean sheet in Japan's 0-0 draw with Ecuador before saving a penalty in the shootout to help his side earn a 5-4 victory, according to the club.
ANALYSIS
Suzuki completed the full match after playing 45 minutes off the bench against Venezuela earlier in the international break, further confirming that his recent rib issue is behind him. The goalkeeper made a key save on Ecuador's third attempt in the shootout and recorded his 17th clean sheet in 30 senior international appearances. Suzuki should be ready to resume his role as Aston Villa's No. 1 following the break after showing no apparent limitations with Japan.

The Magpies need a new first-choice goalkeeper and are keeping close tabs on the Japan international, but they've failed to reach an agreement with Parma over a potential transfer. Suzuki's performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Blue Samurais showed he's more than ready to play in a more competitive environment, and Newcastle are expected to continue pushing for a move for the talented goalkeeper.
