Beatriz Haddad Maia

25-Year-Old
Stuns top seed in Indian Wells
October 11, 2021
Haddad Maia won 6-3, 7-5 over Karolina Pliskova in the third round of Indian Wells on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The world No. 115 from Brazil pulled a big shocker here, as she sent the No. 1 seed packing in straight sets behind a whopping eight breaks of serve. Haddad Maia has largely been playing tournaments below tour-level in 2021, so this is by far her biggest result of the season. The 25-year-old, who got into the draw as a lucky loser, has not dropped a set in two wins. She will face No. 18 seed Anett Kontaveit next.
