Upsets No. 9 seed in Shanghai
October 4, 2025
Shang won 7-6 (3), 6-3 over Karen Khachanov in the second round of Shanghai on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Shang notched by far his biggest win since his recent return from injury as he upset the No. 10-ranked Russian in straight sets across one hour and 41 minutes to move into the third round of this Masters 1000 event. The 20-year-old from China got to as high as No. 47 in the world in late 2024, but his injury absence for much of 2025 has caused his ranking to slip to No. 237. Shang will play No. 51-ranked Nuno Borges in the third round.
