After getting some time at the major-league level for two straight years with the Rangers, Nicholas spent the entirety of last season stuck at El Paso, the Padres' Triple-A affiliate. The 30-year-old backstop performed quite capably there, posting a .291/.353/.485 line with 16 homers. Now with the Rockies, he's likely an injury or two away from getting back to the big leagues. His .252/.300/.456 line in 110 plate appearances at the highest level certainly doesn't excite, but it is enough to suggest that he could be a capable enough backup if given the opportunity. Fairly poor framing numbers in his brief time in the big leagues have likely contributed to his lack of opportunities but won't hurt fantasy owners. He's not worth an investment at draft time and is unlikely to make a significant impact, but if circumstances lead to Nicholas finding his name in the lineup on a regular basis at Coors Field, there will likely be worse options to turn to in deep leagues.
