Offerman was 1-for-2 on Tuesday for the Long Island team in the independent Atlantic League, including a first-inning home run.
ANALYSIS
In addition, he was 2-for-2 in hitting opposing players with his bat after being hit by a pitch his next time up, according to an AP wire story via Yahoo. Offerman, who was arrested by Bridgeport, Connecticut police after the incident, hit the opposing pitcher in the hands and the catcher in the head, which means he is still going after the high stuff off the plate. If he is still on your roster, you may want to cut bait. Major-league teams are probably not scrambling to their fax machines to inquire about his availability for the stretch run.

Offerman was snagged by the Mets from the Phillies off waivers during the season to pinch hit and start occasionally at first base. It'll be a similar role if signed for 2006.
Offerman was signed by the Twins last season to come of the bench as a pinch hitter and he excelled in the role with a .414 pinch-hitting average. Beyond pinch hitting, he was unproductive with a .758 OPS and showed in a brief trial he can no longer play second base. He may be out of a job unless some team values his pinch hitting again in 2005.
Offerman was signed to be a pinch hitter off the bench and may get some spot starts at DH.
Is this the end of the road? Offerman made a convenient scapegoat for the Red Sox and for Pat Gillick's detractors who claimed that he "stood pat" at the trade deadline.
