He's regressed since a promising 2003 MLB debut, but he's left-handed and that gets him a chance to resurrect his career.

The Diamondbacks gave Randolph a brief trial in the rotation at the end of last season, but he didn't impress, so he'll come back as a long reliever when camp opens in 2005. There won't be much fantasy value if he wins that role after being traded to the Cubs.
Last year, we wrote that "Randolph turns 29 in May, but as a lefty, there's always a chance his lotto ticket will come in and he'll become the Jason Simontacchi of 2003." Well, the Diamondbacks hit five numbers out of six with Randolph, getting eight wins (!) and a 4.05 ERA in 60 innings of relief work. However, with Casey Fossum and Shane Nance now on board for 2004, Randolph will face stiff competition for a spot as a lefty in the Arizona bullpen, and, just as with Simontacchi last year, the numbers may not come up again for one of 2003's oldest rookies.
Randolph turns 29 in May, but as a lefty, there's always a chance his lotto ticket will come in and he'll become the Jason Simontacchi of 2003. Randolph went 15-7, 3.47 in 27 starts (163 innings) at Triple-A for Arizona in 2002; then, in his first dozen starts at winter ball in Hermosillo in the offseason, he went 5-4, 3.89. He won't see any time in the bigs in 2003 unless the D-Backs get hit with a lot of injuries, but if he does come up, he might be worth a waiver wire peek.
