Vizcaino has signed a minor league deal with the Orioles, the Baltimore Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Vizcaino hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009 with the Indians, and was handed a 50-game suspension for using a banned substance back in 2011. Now at 39 years old, Vizcaino is likely a long shot to see the major leagues. The deal doesn't include an invitation to spring training, so the veteran will have to work his way up to earn an opportunity. He racked up 25 saves and posted a 1.40 ERA in 2013 for Yucatan of the Mexican League.

Had he been completely healthy, the marriage of the flyball-prone Vizcaino and Coors Field would have been rocky. With a strained shoulder, it was untenable. After a poor 2008 and an offseason DUI, Vizcaino gets a much needed fresh start in Chicago, assuming that he isn't traded again before Opening Day. He'll be in the set-up mix with the Cubs.
Vizcaino has averaged 72 appearances out of the bullpen the past five seasons, and the Rockies willl lean heavily on him as a set-up option again this season, after he signed a two-year pact with Colorado in December. If he keeps the ball on the ground (0.71 G/F ratio won't play well at Coors Field), Vizcaino might post enough strikeouts to serve as a staff filler in NL-only leagues, but Brian Fuentes will get the first crack at saves for the Rockies should anything happen to Manny Corpas.
Vizcaino has become a reliable, if peripatetic, middle reliever; he has little chance of closing. He has a good fastball with occasional issues controlling it. Now with the Yankees, he'll remain in middle relief.
Vizcaino wore out his welcome in another bullpen, as he quickly lost Ozzie Guillen's trust and got relegated to low-pressure work at which he failed to excel. He'll now get to tease Diamondbacks fans with his potential and frustrate them with his uncoachability.
Vizcaino rebounded from a poor 2003 to be the top set-up man in the Milwaukee bullpen in 2004. Vizcaino will assume a similar role in the White Sox bullpen after being traded in the Carlos Lee deal. However, he's in a more crowded bullpen to get save opportunities.
Vizcaino is a hard thrower who had a chance to be the Brewers closer in 2003 but couldn't cut it. The Brewers are hoping he can return to his 2002 form and help them in short relief this year. If he can find his slider again he could be part of their closer mix.
The Brewers fleeced the Rangers last spring by trading Jesus Pena for Vizcaino. Vizcaino was arguably the Brewers' best pitcher in 2003, posting a 2.99 ERA in 81 1/3 innings. His K/BB ratio of 79/30 was one of the best on the team and he also chipped in with five saves and a WHIP of 1.045. If Mike DeJean falters as the closer, Vizcaino would be next in line.
