McGrady announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday, ESPN reports.
				  ANALYSIS
McGrady blended amazing athleticism, hops, and a shooting touch to make an immediate impact upon joining the league as an 18-year-old rookie during the 1997-98 season in Toronto. Eventually, he won scoring titles in his age-23 and 24 campaigns with the Magic, averaging a robust 32.1 points in the former. While he was able to sustain 20-plus points per contest for eight consecutive years, his offensive output fell off a cliff beginning in 2008-09, after which he was beset by injuries and a declining role in the rotation with the Rockets, Knicks, Pistons, and Hawks, culminating in a towel-waving gig with the Spurs' during their recent defeat in the Finals. For his likely Hall-of-Fame career, he posted 19.6 points (on 43.5 percent shooting), 5.6 boards, 4.4 assists, 1.2 three-pointers, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 32.7 minutes per tilt.

McGrady was an interesting signing for the Hawks based on how well he fared towards the end of last season with the Pistons. He can play three different positions, so he could earn significant minutes if someone goes down with an injury. He’s already going to see increased minutes to start the season with Hinrich out. McGrady is no iron horse himself, so he may not be able to play significant minutes even if he is presented with them. While he’s clearly a shell of the player he used to be, he could provide fantasy owners with cheap value in deeper leagues.

McGrady is still far from making his debut with the Spurs, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Coach Gregg Popovich said that it's still unlikely he will play for quite some time. “We’re going real slow,” Popovich said. “We wanted to have another body just as an insurance policy. You don’t know what’s going to happen during a playoff series. We wanted to add someone.”
