McGary will declare for the 2014 NBA Draft after a failed drug test resulted in a one-year suspension by the NCAA, Yahoo Sports reports.

McGary tested positive for marijuana and admitted to smoking it in mid-March before the NCAA Tournament. He was tested after Michigan's Sweet 16 win over Tennessee, despite not playing in the contest due to his ongoing back injury. Had he been tested by the University, he likely would not have received such a stiff penalty, but because it was during the Tournament, he was subject to NCAA penalties.

McGary will undergo back surgery and is highly unlikely to return this season, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports.

McGary garnered considerable NBA buzz after a monstrous showing in his six NCAA tournament games as a freshman, but it's safe to say his stock has tumbled quite a bit with recurring back issues set to cost him most of his sophomore season. The 6-foot-10 big man will be a massive loss for a Wolverines squad that has gotten off to a subpar 7-4 start in 2013-14 following the departure of Player of the Year Trey Burke.
