Brown played through a shoulder injury last season, and the 38-year-old left tackle had offseason surgery to address the injury. Once healthy, Brown's expected to start at left tackle for the Jets. Brown has made seven Pro Bowls, most recently doing so with Seattle in his last healthy season in 2021.
Brown is continuing a holdout he started during the offseason program and leaves Houston preparing for the possibility of opening the season without its starting left tackle. He’s looking for a contract re-do while the team’s position is that Brown is under contract for another two seasons. This holdout could play out into the season – Brown will pay the fines and miss the game checks – and he could return for the second half of the season without losing his future free-agency status after the 2018 season. In the meantime, Chris Clark is expected to start at left tackle while Brown remains out.
