Kirk Cousins: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

The Redskins have no interest in trading Cousins, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This could just be a strategical move on Washington's part, to gain leverage in any potential future trade talks, but Schefter says Cousins is "not going anywhere." A Washington Post report earlier this week said the Redskins would seek a second-round pick in exchange for Cousins, and apparently there's been little interest from around the league.
The Washington Post suggests that the Redskins would seek a second-round pick in they event that they decide to shop Cousins.

That said, while Cousins is open to the possibility of a trade that might present him with a better opportunity to start, it's unclear at this stage just how compelled the Redskins feel about pursuing such a deal, especially with fellow QB Robert Griffin's injury history in mind.
Cousins, who has recently been the subject of trade rumors, will undergo Lasik surgery that may improve his vision to 20-15, ESPN.com reports.

Cousins indicated Wednesday that he is open to a trade, the Washington Post reports. "You know, I think whether itís talking to my agent, whether it's talking to (GM) Bruce Allen with our team or anybody else for that matter, I think the message that I want to say to people is I'm open to a trade," Cousins noted.

"And so Iíve communicated that to the people that need to hear it," Cousins added. "But at the same time, itís a win-win for me. Because Iím excited if I have to be back in D.C., and Iíd be excited if I get a chance to start somewhere. But either way, I want to make sure Iím proactive and communicate where Iím coming from, and then let the people who have the power to make those decisions make those decisions. But I do want my thoughts to be heard, and thatís just that Iím open to being traded." With that in mind, Allen has previously indicated that he expects Cousins to be back with the Redskins next season, though we suppose that if the right offer from another franchise were to come along, a deal could be struck. As it stands, Cousins provides the team with a capable alternative behind Robert Griffin, a talented player with a notable injury history.
GM Bruce Allen indicated Tuesday that he expects Cousins to be back with the Redskins next season, Akron Beacon Journal reports.

The report further suggests that Cousins hasn't requested a trade, as had previously been speculated. "There's no change from our perspective on Kirk," Allen said. "That's it. We're comfortable with Kirk." While Allen's comments don't completely preclude the possibility of the Redskins considering dealing Cousins down the road, it should, at least for now, put a damper on talk that the QB is a candidate to reunite with (new Browns offensive coordinator) Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland.
Cousins is open to being traded, ESPN.com reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This is hardly an earth-shaking development, as the Redskins are clearly committed to Robert Griffin III as their starter and seemed to be showcasing Cousins for a trade in the final three games of the season. While Cousins went 0-3 as a starter and completed just 52.3 percent of his passes in 2013, he reportedly feels he's ready to start for an NFL team. Kyle Shanahan, who worked with Cousins in Washington over the last two years, is now the Browns' offensive coordinator, leading to some speculation that Cleveland could be a possible landing spot for the 25-year-old.

2013

Cousins looked really good in limited 2012 action, completing 68.8 percent of his passes and averaging 9.7 YPA. In his lone start, Cousins completed 26 of his 37 passes for 329 yards and two scores. Of course, he's merely Robert Griffin's backup and RGIII (coming off a serious knee injury) looking good to go for the Redskins' season opener.

2012

Cousins was drafted in the fourth round in 2012. He will compete for the backup quarterback position with veteran and former starter Rex Grossman. The team loved the value of taking Cousins in the fourth round as he was consider a potential starter. The team is heavily invested in starter Robert Griffin III so don't expect Cousins to see the field unless something catastrophic happened to Griffin.
