Both Warrick Dunn (calf) and Jerious Norwood (knee) are questionable for this weekend, so the Falcons could be in need of a running back.

With Michael Bennett recently acquired via trade with the Saints, Griffin could be the odd man out when the team goes through roster cuts prior to the start of the season. Griffin entered training camp behind Larry Johnson and Dee Brown.
Griffin, who is returning from an ACL injury, is competing for playing time. He opened 2004 as the starter, but didn’t do much with the featured role when he had the opportunity. After his stellar performance against the Chiefs in Week 1 where he rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, Griffin managed to gain 139 yards on 58 carries in the next three games. He also lost three fumbles in as many games. With Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell battling it out for the starting job, Griffin is likely now viewed as a change-of-pace back.
The Broncos told you everything you need to know about the undersized Griffin’s prospects as a feature back when they not only drafted Tatum Bell with the 41st pick but gave him Clinton Portis’ old number. While Griffin was practicing with the first team during spring minicamps, we would be very surprised if he were to see more than third-down duty during the season with Bell, Garrison Hearst and Mike Anderson around.
Griffin impressed the coaching staff and teammates during the mini-camps with his speed and his ability to run the ball hard. If Clinton Portis were to go down, Griffin possesses the potential to succeed in the Broncos system but he lost a lot of time due to a hairline fracture to his fibula.
