				  Contract terminated
Byfuglien (ankle) and the Jets have reached an agreement to terminate the remainder of the defenseman's contract.
				  ANALYSIS
Byfuglien and Winnipeg were mired in a grievance due to the player's refusal to report to training camp this fall, as well as his subsequent ankle surgery without team approval. The Minnesota native was suspended by the team and hasn't appeared in an NHL game since April 20, 2019. While Byfuglien could look to sign with another club this offseason, he has reportedly been considering retirement as well.

Despite appearing in a mere 42 games this past season due to injury, Byfuglien still managed to hit the 30-point mark for a sixth consecutive year. The 34-year-old still possesses a powerful shot that will likely help him earn power-play minutes, though he could cede a spot with the No. 1 unit to youngster Josh Morrissey. While 50 points may no longer be within Byfuglien's reach, he should still be capable of topping 40, assuming he can avoid any further extended absences.

Longshot to sign with hometown Wild
Although his agent Ben Hankinson is hoping Byfuglien will consider coming out of retirement to sign with his hometown Wild, he admits at this point the chances of that happening are slim to none, The Athletic's Michael Russo reports.
				  ANALYSIS
Big Buff and his agent sat down with Minnesota's general manager Bill Guerin a few months ago to discuss the possibility of the big-bodied blueliner coming out of retirement to play in 2020-21, but at this point Byfuglien seems perfectly content to remain retired and focus on raising his three children. Byfuglien would make a fine addition to the Wild's defensive corps, but at this point there's no reason to believe he'll be suiting up for Minnesota, or any other NHL club, next season.
