Defoe grabbed the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Newcastle Sunday.

This goal was as big as any this season as it not only grabbed a win against Sunderland's biggest rivals, but furthered the distance from the drop zone. It was Defoe's only shot in the match, but he made it count grabbing his third goal for the Black Cats. Defoe has a good matchup next Saturday when Sunderland host Crystal Palace.

Defoe was scoreless yet again Saturday in the 1-0 loss to West Ham.

Defoe got off to a hot start scoring in two of his first three matches, but has cooled off since going scoreless in his last six starts. It's hard to score when your team has only one goal in that six game span, but it just shows the lack of offense that Sunderland has. He has only maxed out at three shots in his time at Sunderland, so it remains to be seen if he can be a consistent scorer at this point in his career. Sunderland have their Tyne-Wear rivalry match in their next game when they host Newcastle in two weeks time.

Defoe had three shots in the 0-0 draw to West Brom Saturday.

After being questionable to play, Defoe was able to take the field in the scoreless draw to West Brom. After scoring in his first two matches he hasnt been able to find the back of the net in the past two, but it's just a matter of time as Defoe seemingly walks into goals when he's starting. Look for him to start again next Saturday when Sunderland travel to take on Manchester United.

Defoe scored for his second consecutive match in the 1-1 draw to Swansea City Saturday.

The goalscorer is doing what he does best and the signing is really paying dividends right now as he has scored in two of his first three matches. He'll likely start every game from here on out as Sunderland desperately need his goal scoring ability on the field for their relegation battle. Defoe has some favorable matchups approaching as Sunderland host QPR Tuesday and West Brom next weekend.

Defoe started his second game for Sunderland Saturday and was able to find the back of the net in the 2-0 win over Burnley.

Defoe has always been a good finisher and he proved his skill today with another typical striker goal. He is just what the doctor ordered for Sunderland as they haven't had a legitimate striker in years. He'll continue to start and do what he can to keep Sunderland in the Premier League for next season. Look for him to start again next Saturday when Sunderland travel to Wales to take on Swansea City.
