Cole officially signed a two-year contract with AS Roma on Monday, the club's official web site reports.

Cole was out of contract with Chelsea and it did not appear that the club was interested in bringing him back. He is still a strong defender that can contribute offensively, so it'll be interesting to see how Roma uses him.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cole is expected to sign with a non-Premier League club for the upcoming season, with Serie A side AS Roma considered the favorite, The Guardian reports.

Cole spent the last eight seasons with Chelsea, but manager Jose Mourinho decided not to bring him back after he lost his first-team spot to Cesar Azpilicueta this past season. Cole is certainly on the down-side of career, but he likely has a few decent seasons left in him.

Cole announced on twitter that he will not be part of England's World Cup team in Brazil this summer and has decided to retire from England.

Cole had been vocal about his desire to claim his spot in England's squad for Brazil this summer, but his lack of playing time and competition for the squad hindered his chances. Not being selected has influenced his decision to make way from the team for the younger generation to come through.

A number of major teams including Liverpool and Manchester United appear to be on alert as Chelsea offered Cole a contract with reduced terms, making a summer transfer more attractive, according to the Daily Mirror.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and other clubs have all been mentioned as being interested in the veteran defender. Cole is still seeking a call up to England's World Cup squad this summer, but may be playing his final game for Chelsea Sunday after joining the club in 2006.

Cole has said that he is out to win a spot on England's World Cup squad this summer and admitted that he faces a tough selection test with the likes of Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw playing well, reports the Mirror.

Cole said he faces a lot of pressure to maintain his spot in the squad, and that he feels some want to see him fail. He has been second choice at Chelsea behind Cesar Azpilicueta, which could harm his selection chances.
