Fabregas assisted on Juan Mata's 82nd minute goal during Spain's 3-0 win over Australia at the World Cup on Monday.

Fabregas was noticeably absent from both of Spain's first two matches in Brazil, but finally made an appearance in the 68th minute in place of Santi Cazorla. With Spain already eliminated from knockout round contention, Fabregas will get a little bit of a break before making his Stamford Bridge debut later this summer.

Fabregas signed a five-year contract with Chelsea on Thursday, moving over from FC Barcelona, the club's official web site reports.

Fabregas joins the Blues after a very impressive run with Barcelona, which was preceded by a fantastic stay at Arsenal. The Gunners were believed to have a first crack at Fabregas if he ever came back to the Premier League, so his signing with Chelsea seems to indicate that Arsene Wenger passed on a reunion. Either way, he returns to England and should be one of the top fantasy midfielders next season.

Fabregas had two goals and an assist during Barcelona's 5-2 win over Getafe on Sunday.

Barcelona were down 0-2 after just 15 minutes, but a first half hat trick by Pedro put them ahead of good. Both of Fabregas' goals came in the second half, increasing his season total to seven, which he's coupled with nine assists in La Liga play. In addition, five of his goals have come in his last five league matches.

Fabregas (knee) returned to training Tuesday and could be available for Saturday's La Liga match against Granada.

Fabregas felt pain in his knee toward the end of Barcelona's win over Real Betis back on November 10, a disappointing finish after he scored two goals and recorded an assist in the match. However, he appears to be on track to play Saturday and will continue to be an important part of the Barca attack, especially with Lionel Messi (hamstring) out until at least the new year.

Fabregas scored two goals and recorded an assist in Sunday's win over Real Betis but he also left the game in the 82nd minute with pain in his right knee, according to the Associated Press. "I started with some pain in my knee," the player said. "I was fine but it got worse as the game went on. I prefer to be cautious because I hurt my knee a few years ago."

The good news for Fabregas is that the international break has arrived and he'll likely use the time to rest his ailing knee. The Spanish midfielder now has four goals and seven assists in Liga play this year, along with one goal and one assist in Champions League action.
