Welbeck will play at least 45 minutes with Arsenal's U-21 side Friday as he continues to work his way back from a knee injury, manager Arsene Wenger said Friday.

Welbeck has been out for a considerable amount of time, so it'll take a few games with the youngsters before he gets his timing and fitness back. However, even when he's fit, it's tough to see where he fits into the Gunners' attack since Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell are all fit.

Manager Arsene Wenger said Thursday that Welbeck (knee) could return "around the New Year."

Wenger previously said that Welbeck was targeting a return around Christmas, so the new timetable isn't drastically different. Given his inability to play so far this season, it'll likely take Welbeck quite some time to get his match fitness back.
