Neymar suffered a grade 1 ankle sprain during training Friday and he could miss Barcelona's La Liga opener Saturday against Elche.

Neymar looked in midseason form against Club Leon in a friendly on Monday after finally being cleared from his back injury, but Barca will likely be very cautious with him to ensure he can make it through the whole campaign.

Neymar (back) had two goals and an assist during his preseason debut Monday against Club Leon.

Neymar played only the first half, but he was downright dominant in his 45 minutes. He continues to work his way back from a fractured vertebra, but if Monday's performance is any indication, he could be a fully contributor relatively early on in the season. Barcelona open their season Sunday against Elche.

Barcelona doctors have given Neymar (back) clearance to begin training, and he will be available for Monday's friendly against Club Leon.

It will likely take Neymar a few weeks to get back to match fitness, following a broken vertebra suffered during the World Cup. It's kind of impressive how quickly he was able to get clearance, although it wouldn't be surprising if he was limited early in the season, including Sunday's La Liga opener against Elche.

Neymar continues to recover from the fractured vertebra he suffered during the World Cup and he has not been fully cleared by Barcelona club doctors yet, the club's official website reports.

Neymar wasn't expected to begin the season on time, and he still hasn't been given any kind of timetable for a return, making him a poor fantasy play in weekly leagues to start the season.

Neymar trained with Barcelona on Tuesday, the first time he has done so since he suffered a fractured vertebra during Brazil's quarterfinal match against Colombia in the World Cup.

It will likely be a while until Neymar is back to match fitness, as he's lucky to not have suffered an even worse injury after getting kneed in the back during the World Cup. He'll be a fairly limited fantasy player at the start of the season, but he's a very versatile producer when he's fit.

Neymar will be sidelined for three-to-six weeks after suffering a fractured vertebra during Brazil's quarterfinal match against Colombia on Friday, ESPN FC reports.

Brazil's team doctor Jose Luiz Runco said Saturday that Neymar will not need surgery for the ailment, and instead would rely on painkillers, a special belt and rest for his recovery. Given the time frame, Neymar will likely be delayed in joining FC Barcelona for the upcoming La Liga season.

Neymar has been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a fractured vertebra during Brazil's quarterfinal match against Colombia on Friday, BBC Sport reports.

Neymar was stretchered off the field after taking a knee to the back from Colombia's Juan Zuniga, and was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation. The situation could not be worse for Brazil, who will now have to face Germany in the semifinals without their best player, plus their best defender after Thiago Silva picked up his second yellow card of the tournament Friday. There are a number of options to replace Neymar, although none of them possess the skills to fill the void; Jo, Ramires and Willian are the most likely candidates.

Neymar was stretchered off late in the second half of Brazil's World Cup quarterfinal match against Colombia with an apparent back injury.

Neymar was taken directly to the locker room for further evaluation with Brazil leading 2-1. It would be a giant blow to Brazil's hopes at reaching the final if Neymar is unable to play in the semifinal against Germany.
