RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Clyne (foot) had two tackles, three interceptions and one clearance to help post a clean sheet during Southampton's 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Clyne has been sidelined since suffering the injury on Boxing Day against Crystal Palace, and his return gave a solid boost to the Saints' defense, shutting out a high-scoring United side. Up next is a road game against manager-less Newcastle.

Clyne, who has been dealing with a foot injury recently, as returned to first-team training, though manager Ronald Koeman intimated that he is unsure if Clyne will play Sunday against Manchester United. "In my opinion, he's ready to play, but the player needs to be comfortable," Koeman said.

Clyne's presence in the lineup will be a big lift for Southampton, who will try to slow down the expensive Man U attack led by Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Falcao.

Clyne scored Southampton's only goal in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Monday.

The goal was Clyne's second in the Premier League this season. The full-back has been on fantastic form so far this season, providing two goals, one assist and contributing to seven clean sheets. Clyne is therefore an excellent choice as he plays in a tight defence and contributes to attacks.

Southampton is expected to kick off contract discussions with Clyne in an effort to tie him to the club for the future, according to the Daily Mail.

Clyne's current contract expires at the end of next season, but Southampton is looking to extend the defender's time with the club and avoid interest from some of the bigger teams. Clyne recently earned England caps against Slovenia and Scotland.

Clyne blasted home a 56th minute goal in Southampton's 2-1 loss at Liverpool on Sunday.

Clyne made a darting run into the penalty area and found the end of a well-timed back-heel from Dusan Tadic to hammer a goal from close range. With Calum Chambers now at Arsenal, Clyne figures to have Southampton's right-back position to himself, which should add stability to his fantasy stock this season.

Clyne, who had been ruled out for Saturday's match against Manchester City due to a groin injury, was available off the bench, although he did not play.

It was probably good that Clyne didn't play for fantasy owners, as City tagged Southampton for four goals. Clyne's next opportunity to play comes Saturday against Cardiff City at home.

Clyne (groin) has been ruled out of Saturday's match against Manchester City, Southampton's official web site reports.

Clyne was expected to return this weekend but manager Mauricio Pochettino specifically said he would not play this week. It's a tough blow for Southampton, who will have to try to slow down a prolific City scoring attack.
