The FA announced Monday that the red card assessed to McAuley during last Saturday's game against Arsenal has been transferred to Craig Dawson.

The issue was a case of mistaken identity, and McAuley will now avoid a one-match ban, which will be served by Dawson. It's certainly good news for fantasy owners, as McAuley has upcoming Premier League matches against QPR and Leicester City, two solid clean sheet opportunities.

McAuley (ankle) is not seriously injured after returning from international duty with ankle damage, reports the official club website.

Medical staff assessed the injury that was sustained in Northern Ireland’s 2-1 win in Hungary and reported that it’s “not thought to be serious”. McAuley has yet to start a game so far this campaign due to a preseason dogged by injuries and is another that will help to shore up what is a leaky defence right now.

McAuley came back from a calf injury to play the entire 120 minutes of Tuesday’s Capital One Cup second round win over Oxford United.

McAuley spent preseason on the sidelines with a calf injury and manager Alan Irvine will be pleased the centre back came through the 120 minutes unscathed. McAuley has been a mainstay of West Brom’s defence since promotion in 2011/12 with a solid clean sheet total in each season. Fantasy owners would be cautious to note he is now 34 plus manager Irvine recruited Joleon Lescott earlier this summer thus putting his starting position under considerable threat.

McAuley returned to the squad as an unused substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Southampton.

McAuley spent preseason out with a calf injury and the centre-back’s return is a boost for manager Alan Irvine’s plans. Craig Dawson has been deputising for McAuley in the first two games alongside Jonas Olsson. Manager Irvine is thinking about employing three centre-backs when Joleon Lescott (knee) reaches full-fitness and until then McAuley represents a solid option in the clean sheet column for fantasy owners.
