Sturridge (thigh) "isn't quite available" according to manager Brendan Rodgers as he has been ruled out for Liverpool's Champions League match with FC Basel on Wednesday.

Sturridge will rest his thigh for another few days with the hope of returning for the Reds' Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sturridge (thigh) faces a late fitness test ahead of Liverpool's Champions League match against FC Basel on Wednesday. "He wasn't really close for (Saturday's Premier League match against Everton)," manager Brendan Rodgers said Monday. "We needed to see if he could train on the Friday, but I got the message on the Thursday night that he would struggle, so he wasn't really close to playing. I'll see how he is (for Wednesday). He wasn't far away for Everton, but he certainly wasn't fit enough to be on the bench."

It sounds a bit weird that Rodgers considered Sturridge not far away from playing against Everton but that he also wasn't fit enough to even be on the bench. In all likelihood he'll be held out for Wednesday's match with a potential return Saturday against West Brom, though he may be forced to come off the bench.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sturridge (thigh) is not in the 18-man squad for Liverpool's match against Everton on Saturday.

Sturridge was a long-shot to play anyway, but manager Brendan Rodgers said he would give his star striker as much time as possible to be fit for the match. His next opportunity to play comes Wednesday against FC Basel in the Champions League.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sturridge has yet to return to full training from the thigh injury he picked up while on international duty, but Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he will face a late fitness test to determine his availability for the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Sturridge being unable to train will certainly limit him in the match, so even if he does start, the likelihood of him playing the full 90 is extremely low. If he can't go, Fabio Borini is expected to start in his place alongside Mario Balotelli.

Sturridge (thigh) will not play in Liverpool's Premier League match against West Ham on Saturday, but he may be able to return Sept. 27 against Everton, manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday.

Sturridge has already missed two matches after picking up the injury while on international duty with England. He is an elite forward option in nearly all fantasy formats and his return will be a big boost for Liverpool, who will continue to start Mario Balotelli up front.

Sturridge returned to light training after suffering a thigh injury that is expected to force him out for up to three weeks, reports the Daily Mail.

Sturridge did some jogging, turning, and running with the ball as he trained alone on Wednesday. He suffered the thigh injury while on duty with England, and isn't expected to make a playing return until next week.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed Thursday that Sturridge will be out for up to three weeks with a thigh injury, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Sturridge will miss Premier League matches against Aston Villa and West Ham, as well as a Champions League match against Ludogorets. While he's got a shot at returning to face Everton on Sept. 27, that would be on the shorter end of any potential return, which could mean he could be back Oct. 4 against West Brom.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sturridge is set to miss at least two weeks after suffering a thigh strain during training with England last week, The Guardian reports.

Sturridge has been ruled out for Sunday's match against Aston Villa, and he could miss two additional Premier League matches against West Ham and Everton. In addition, he will not play against Ludogorets in the Champions League, a big blow to Liverpool ahead of some very important matches. Mario Balotelli will likely continue to start up front, with Rickie Lambert potentially getting some more playing time in the short-term.
