Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday that Sturridge will not be rushed back from his hip injury. "There's no timeline on Daniel," Rodgers said. "He has obviously been away working in America. He has come back and it's just about him working hard now to get somewhere near the level of the group. There's no time on it. He came back and looks well -- he's really excited and happy to be back among his teammates. We'll just have to take a week on week, rather than put any sort of pressure on a time for him."

The initial estimate for Sturridge's return was mid-to-late October, but that was moved up by nearly a month recently, with the possibility that he could be available after the upcoming international break. Rodgers' comments obviously put some cold water on that possibility, and fantasy owners are now back to just sitting back and waiting on more progress in Sturridge's recovery before taking the plunge to pick him up.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday that Sturridge (hip) is hoping to return at the beginning of September.

That timeline is much earlier than previously expected, as Sturridge's return date was estimated some time in October. It's unclear if Rodgers' estimate was for Sturridge to return to full first-team training or actually a match, but given the length of his absence, the club has no reason to rush him back before he is fully healthy.

Sturridge will be sidelined for four months after undergoing hip surgery this week, and he will miss the start of the 2015/16 Premier League season, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Sturridge is estimated to be able to return to full training some time in September, which means it could be October before he's back in the starting XI. The Premier League schedule even starts early next season in preparation for the Euros next summer, so it's possible Sturridge could miss up to 10 games. It will be the third straight year he's failed to be fully fit at the start of a season.

Sturridge announced on Instagram that he had hip surgery Tuesday.

Sturridge has been battling the hip ailment for well over a month, and he was believed to be in the United States to help with his rehab. However, the trip turned out to be more serious, and the surgery will certainly rule him out for the rest of the Premier League season, with the hope that he can be fully fit for the start of next season.

Sturridge (hip) is considered day-to-day but may be in danger of sitting out the rest of the season for precautionary reasons according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

Sturridge sat out the past three matches and seems to be in danger of missing Tuesday's fixture against Hull City, and beyond. Rodgers should shed some light on this situation moving forward but there's an overwhelming concern for Sturridge's long-term viability with the squad if he were to continue playing through his hip injury. Mario Balotelli and Philippe Coutinho will likely continue to benefit for the duration of Sturridge's stint on the bench.
