Juventus announced Monday that Pirlo has left the club for a career in Major League Soccer, Football Italia reports.

Pirlo had an amazing career in Italy but will spend his twilight years in the MLS with New York City FC. The official terms of his contract are through Dec. 2017 as he joins David Villa and Frank Lampard as the three designated players on the roster. The 36-year-old will be eligible for selection against Toronto FC on Sunday and should be a perennial starter once he begins his career stateside.

Pirlo has agreed to terms with NYC FC, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.

While this agreement is still unofficial, Pirlo has been spotted numerous times over the last few days in New York, making his potential move to the MLS plausible when considering that NYC FC is the front runner for the 36-year-old Italian who played for Juventus last season. If the midfielder does in fact head stateside, he won't be able to begin his MLS career until July 8 when the secondary transfer window opens up since he still has one year remaining on his current deal with Juventus.

Pirlo played a vital role in Juventus' league-cup double this season, as he scored five goals and provided five assists while masterfully controlling the midfield.

The 36-year-old was much more influential than his statistics show and he played numerous key passes that led indirectly to goals. Despite last season's ageless display, Pirlo is reportedly planning to leave Turin this summer with New York City FC currently leading the race, but the Australian League is another possible destination.

Pirlo fired off four shots and scored a beautiful free kick goal on Sunday against Torino.

The 35-year-old was influential yet again for Juve, but couldn't quite help his team avoid an upset defeat against their city rivals. Pirlo, who now has four goals and four assists in 17 Serie A matches this season, will next take the field against Fiorentina on Wednesday.

The club is expected to provide an update after the match, though it looked to be an issue with his knee.

Pirlo scored from beyond 30-yards out during Juve's 2-1 win over Atalanta on Friday.

Pirlo continues to be more important to Juventus than to fantasy owners, as the rocket goal was only his third in 15 Serie A appearances this season.

Pirlo tied for the team lead with three shots, though only one was on goal, during Juventus' 4-0 win over Verona on Sunday.

Pirlo has been playing well of late, with two assists in his last four league matches, though he hasn't scored since Nov. 30 against Torino. He continues to be a free-kick maestro, but his fantasy upside is somewhat limited in most leagues given that he doesn't score a ton of goals.

Pirlo scored on a free kick in stoppage time to give Juventus a 2-1 victory rival Torino Sunday.

He is simply one of the best to have ever played the game.
