Rafinha suffered an ankle injury during training Saturday and he could be out for an extended absence, Goal.com reports.

Rafina appeared on his way out last summer, but got plenty of first-team action when Pep Guardiola took over. There are a few different options to replace him in the starting XI, which includes moving Philipp Lahm back to right back from the defensive midfielder role he played last season.

Schalke have fined defender Rafinha a record €700,000 (£553,000) for making the trip to the Olympic Games, Sky Sports reports.

The Brazilian earned the ire of club bosses after travelling to Beijing against the expressed wishes of the Schalke management team and spending a total of 35 days away from Gelsenkirchen. He has taken his case to the international Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the hope that the Brazilian Football Federation can be forced to pay the fine.
