Robben will be sidelined for at least six weeks because of the groin injury he suffered during Saturday's friendly against Lippstadt, Bayern Munich announced Sunday.

Robben lasted just 45 minutes during the friendly, and while there wasn't much immediate concern, the injury is apparently more serious than initially expected. Bayern have plenty of firepower to replace him, and most of his time out will be before the Bundesliga season starts, but it's still not the right way to start a new season after he made just 18 appearances in all competitions last term due to various injuries.

Robben was subbed off at halftime of Bayern Munich's friendly against SV Lippstadt on Saturday because of a thigh injury, the club's official website reports.

Robben dealt with a number of injuries this past season, which limited him to just 18 appearances in all competitions, and while the latest issue isn't considered serious, the club have no reason to rush him back before he's fully healthy.

Robben (hamstring) managed just four goals and an assist in 18 appearances in all competitions last season.

The winger had no luck on the injury front, as he suffered three stints of at least two months on the sidelines during the season, ending with a hamstring issue suffered in March that he has still yet to recover from. Robben will remain at Bayern and hopes to play a part for the squad next season, but it would be risky to bank on him making it through the entire year healthy.

Robben, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury for the last several months, said he was still hopeful to play a role in the squad this season, the club reports.

Robben hasn’t seen pitch action since March 5th, when Bayern Munich drew 0-0 with second place Borussia Dortmund. Despite rumors that he is finished for the season, Robben has insisted that he intends to keep fighting for a chance to come back to the squad this year. Robben has seven goals in all competitions this season.

Robben has returned to training and is working his way back to full fitness as he continues to recover from a thigh injury, Vital Football reports.

The winger hasn't played in over a month because of the injury, but his return to training is a positive sign. He seemingly has an outside chance to be involved in the Champions League return leg, but his extended absence likely means he will begin the match on the bench even if he is deemed fit enough to take part.

Robben scored a goal on four shots during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Robben also whipped in four crosses and was a dominant force on the pitch during Bayern Munich’s first leg match against Juventus. It was Robben’s first goal since scoring a second-half brace for the Netherlands during an international friendly against Wales in November, and he will look to extend this form into Saturday’s Bundesliga match at Wolfsburg.
