Rossi (knee) is now expected to return to Fiorentina in two months, which means he could be fit for this summer's World Cup, Goal.com reports. The club released a statement Wednesday that said "Rossi has recently completed a follow-up visit from knee surgeon specialist Richard Steadman. He has shown good stability of his recently injured knee. The player will continue his fitness rehabilitation, which we expect to take two months."

It's certainly great news for Italy's World Cup chances, although Fiorentina will remain without their oft-injured striker for quite a bit of the remaining portion of the Serie A season.

Additional tests on Rossi's injured right knee revealed "a stress to the anterior cruciate ligament perviously operated on," the Associated Press reports.

Fiorentina confirmed that the ACL is not torn, but the injury is worse than was initially diagnosed, which had originally given him a two month timetable for return. He is expected to have a two-to-three week break before additional tests are done, but it looks like Rossi will miss more than two months.

Rossi has a partially torn PCL in his right knee and will be out at least two months.

Rossi had torn the ACL in his right knee twice already, and the immediate fear after the injury Sunday was that he had done it again. While it sounds strange, the two-to-three month timetable is good news for Rossi, who could have been out much longer had he torn the ACL for a third time.

Rossi suffered a sprained right knee during Sunday's Serie A match against Livorno and will have a scan on it Monday.

The club only announced that it was a sprained knee, but there are concerns that the injury could be very serious. It's the same knee that has had two torn ACLs, which is giving the club worry that Rossi may have suffered a third one. More information will obviously be known after the scans, although it looks like Rossi, who is Serie A's leading goal-scorer this season, could be out for some time.
