Taylor (hamstring) is unlikely to make a return until after the new year, the Chronicle Live reports.

Following Taylor's operation on his hamstring, he'll be out until after the new year most likely. He's only been featured in two Premier League fixtures this season, and both came early on in the season before his lengthy absence. Continuing to recover, he'll hope to make a return to full fitness and rejoin the first team around the new year.

Taylor is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a severe Achilles injury during Thursday's match against Burnley, the Chronicle reports.

Taylor was seen using crutches and wearing a walking boot after the match, one in while he scored his first goal of the season. Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson are now the only centrebacks left on the senior squad.

Taylor picked up two yellow cards in Saturday's win over Chelsea and he will be suspended for Newcastle's match against Arsenal next weekend.

Taylor will be eligible to return Dec. 21 against Sunderland, a far better clean sheet opportunity than at Arsenal.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Taylor came on in the 88th minute after Mike Williamson got sent off in Newcastle's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Taylor will likely get the start next week with Williamson suspended for one game. The matchup is an excellent one with Crystal Palace coming to St. James' Park, so fantasy owners looking for cheap defender options should look Taylor's way.

Newcastle is not looking to send Taylor on loan this January, according to Sky Sports.

Taylor hasn't been in the action for Newcastle since the first match of the season after a red card ban and then a hamstring injury in training. Manager Alan Pardew said that Taylor is fit, but will need to work his way back into the lineup.

Taylor (hamstring) is close to a return but likely won't be fit before Sunday's match against Tottenham, the Shields Gazette reports.

Taylor has not played for Newcastle sine the club's opening fixture of the season against Manchester City back on August 19. It's certainly good news that he's close to a return, but he isn't likely to be a major fantasy contributor.
