Messi will be sidelined for three weeks due to the groin strain in his right leg suffered on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid.

Messi came off in the 59th minute of Wednesday's match, and while Barcelona have plenty of depth in their attack, there is no replacing Messi. Neymar and Luis Suarez will obviously take on more of the scoring burden, with Angel Correa, Paco Alcacer and Arda Turan looking at more playing time with Messi out.

Messi was replaced in the 59th minute of Wednesday's clash with Atletico Madrid with an apparent injury.

Messi slowly walked out during the substitution. The playmaker recently had issues with his groin and may have aggravated the ailment.

Messi scored twice, one a converted penalty kick and assisted on another in Saturday's 5-1 win at Leganes. He finished with six shots and three corners taken in the win.

Back in the starting lineup, Messi is just being Messi, now with five goals in the past week including the UCL match against Celtic. Against Atletico next match, things may be a little more difficult for Barca.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Messi scored three goals on six shots (four on target) and added an assist (on two key passes) during Barcelona's impressive 7-0 rout over Celtic on Tuesday.

Messi impressed in this game with a hat-trick, including a very early goal in the third minute. The Argentinian pulled the strings of the team in the final third, and as the best player on the world he should remain a must-start in every single fantasy format.

Messi (groin) is in the 18-man squad for Saturday's match with Deportivo Alaves.

Messi missed last week's World Cup qualifier with a groin injury and is not fit enough to start. Neymar will be the main strike option for Barcelona to start the match.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Messi (groin) is in the squad to face Alaves on Saturday.

The groin injury forced Messi to miss a World Cup qualifier earlier this week, but he returned to Spain fit enough to at least make the game-day squad. His fantasy value obviously hinges on whether he starts.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Messi (groin) is doubtful for Saturday's La Liga clash with Alaves and the Champions League opener against Celtic, according to Sky Sports. "Tests conducted today on Leo Messi have confirmed that the player is still having trouble with the left adductor muscle", the medical staff of Barcelona announced Monday.

Messi made a return to international football Friday by starting against Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier. Unfortunately, he aggravated his injury and had to return to Barcelona where he conducted more tests over the weekend. He's been advised to rest and the ailment will be monitored daily. With the Catalans hosting Alaves, however, it won't be a surprise to just see him spared regardless of how far he progresses.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Messi (hamstring) started and scored in Argentina's win over Uruguay but struggled with a groin injury, according to ESPN FC.

Messi had a sore hamstring earlier in the week and said he started the World Cup qualifier versus Uruguay with a groin pain. He played through his new ailment but may have aggravated it and his status for the game against Venezuela on Tuesday is in doubt. It seems like he's struggling with minor issues, however, that could limit his fantasy upside in La Liga action a little bit even if he can play through the issues.
