Buffon needed to make only one save, though it was a beauty, in Juventus' 2-0 Champions League win over Malmo on Tuesday.

Buffon is in excellent form right now, as he has yet to allow a goal this season while wearing a Juve shirt, with one clean sheet in the Champions League and two in Serie A play. Up next is a trip to face AC Milan on Saturday.

Buffon (ankle) ultimately made the start in goal against Costa Rica on Friday, but he gave up the lone goal that ended Italy's day in defeat.

There was doubt in whether or not Buffon would be able to make the start, but he managed to hit the field and recorded four saves. His ankle injury didn't seem to hinder his abilities too much as the lone goal that he gave up would have been out of the reach of most goalies. It's likely that he'll start once again when Italy plays Uruguay on Tuesday.

Buffon (ankle) is considered an injury doubt to face Costa Rica on Friday, the AFP reports. "I can't tell if he'll play against Costa Rica," coach Enrico Catellacci said Sunday. "His knee is fine but he is still suffering from his ankle. I am optimistic about a quick recovery, but his health comes before everything."

Salvatore Siriglu started in place of Buffon in Italy's World Cup opener against England (a 2-1 win for the Azzurri), and he remains a fine option if he must start against Costa Rica.

Buffon was crucial in helping Italy win the World Cup in 2006 and his absence will be noticed during the crucial match against England. In his place, Salvatore Sirigu is expected to move up to the Starting XI.

Buffon made three saves en route to a clean sheet during Juventus' 1-0 win over Torino on Sunday.

The 36-year old keeper now has 12 clean sheets on the season, although Sunday's was his first since January 5 against AS Roma. Juventus continue top the Serie A table, although they continue to give up more goals recently than they did at the beginning of the season.

Buffon will miss Juventus' match with Inter after picking up a red card over the weekend in a draw with Lazio.

That is not the ideal match to miss.

Buffon made one save en route to a clean sheet during Saturday's 1-0 victory over Sampdoria.

Buffon couldn't have asked for a much easier Serie A opener this season. He'll continue to be a clean sheet target as the starting goalkeeper for presumably the favorite to win the Serie A this year.
