Wondolowski (international duty) will start in Sunday's game against the Whitecaps.

The Earthquakes have been reeling without Wondolowski and his reappearance in the starting XI so soon after his time away at the Gold Cup is not all that surprising when considering San Jose has been outscored 8-2 in their previous three MLS games. His presence should immediately stymie the playing time that Tommy Thompson and Mark Sherrod were receiving.

Wondolowski has left the Earthquakes in pursuit of the Gold Cup with the U.S. Men's National Team, Kyle McCarthy of FOX Sports reports.

The exact length of Wondolowski's absence remains undetermined as it depends on how far the U.S. squad advances through the tournament. However, he could be in line to miss the majority of July while J.J. Koval and Tommy Thompson likely benefit in the meantime.

Wondolowski scored from the penalty spot during San Jose's 3-1 loss at Toronto on Saturday, his fourth consecutive game with a goal.

After a slow start, Wondolowski has been in excellent form, not only scoring in four straight, but also five in his last six games. He now has eight goals on the season, which puts him second in MLS behind Columbus' Kei Kamara (10).

Wondolowski scored from the penalty spot in the 68th minute of San Jose's 1-1 draw with Orlando City on Sunday, the 100th goal of his MLS career.

Wondolowski became the ninth player in league history to reach the mark, and is the second fastest to do so after Taylor Twellman. Wondolowski had a bit of a dry spell last month, but he's been hot of late and is now second in MLS with seven goals this season.

Wondolowski scored early in what was an eventful 3-3 draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.

Wondo's going to get his 20 goals again this year. A call up to the US National Team for the World Cup is up in the air, but if he is selected, that's the only thing that could get in his way to another league-best goals tally.

Wondolowski netted for the 19th time this season in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Montreal.

Wondo is on fire, but it is a bad loss for the Quakes. One has to wonder if their supreme luck is running thing, but with Wondo, luck is a manifestation of the guy's MVP form.
