Gibbs is starting in the attacking midfield Saturday against West Brom.

Gibbs will replace Joel Campbell in the attack, despite the Costa Rican playing relatively well while filling in for the injured Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It's a big opportunity for Gibbs, who is certainly a more attacking defender than a ball-stopping one.

Gibbs came off the bench and scored a goal in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Gibbs has seen his place in the side gone to the phenomenal Nacho Monreal, but with no available options in the midfield, Gibbs was forced to play out of position as a left midfielder. Making his fifth appearance in the Premier League and by far his longest, Gibbs got on the end of a beautiful Mesut Ozil ball to sneak the ball behind Hugo Lloris for the equalizer in the 77th minute. Gibbs' last goal came on Oct. 22, 2014 against Anderlecht in the Champions League last season and his last—and only other—Premier League goal came on Mar. 24, 2012 against Aston Villa.

Gibbs came on in the 83rd minute of Arsenal's 2-0 win at Manchester City on Sunday, finishing with two crosses on six touches.

Gibbs came on for Alexis Sanchez to help the Gunners hold onto their lead, which they did to take a massive three points. Nacho Monreal started at leftback, but it's likely that Gibbs takes the spot back, if he's fully fit, when Premier League play picks up again for Arsenal on Feb. 1 against Aston Villa.

Gibbs (ankle) will train with the first team Friday and could feature in Sunday's match against Manchester City, manager Arsene Wenger said Thursday.

Gibbs continues to deal with inflammation in his ankle, and if he is unable to go, Nacho Monreal would likely get another start in his place.

Gibbs was held out of Sunday's match against Stoke City due to ankle inflammation, manager Arsene Wenger confirmed after the game.

Nacho Monreal started in place of Gibbs on Sunday, an outcome likely to happen again next Sunday against Manchester City if the ankle doesn't heal quickly.

Gibbs (hip) played a full match in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Burnley. He picked up an assist on Arsenal's final score.

It's encouraging to see Gibbs log a complete game given his recent hip injury. Until we hear differently, we'll assume he's close to 100 percent.

Manager Arsene Wenger said Thursday that Gibbs (hip) is still an injury doubt for Saturday's match against Burnley, but his participation in training Friday will help make the decision.

Arsenal have been hit hard in the back, as they are already without Mathieu Debuchy (ankle) and Laurent Koscielny (Achilles), so losing Gibbs only adds to the issues. If he is unable to play, Arsenal could move a number of different pieces around, possibly giving a start to Hector Bellerin.

Arsenal feel Gibbs could potentially return from a hip injury in time to face Burnley on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

The defender injured his hip against Sunderland last weekend. He is being assessed by the medical staff, but early indications suggest the knock won't keep him out for too long.
