Rafael has been ruled out of Sunday's match against Everton due to a thigh injury, the club's official web site reports.

This weekend's match wasn't a great clean sheet opportunity for Rafael anyway, so his absence shouldn't bother too many fantasy teams. However, United have three straight home matches against Norwich, Sunderland and Hull City after this weekend, which are certainly more encouraging matchups for the defender, if he can return to fitness.

Rafael came off at halftime of Saturday's match against Aston Villa after picking up a knock, the club's official web site reports.

The timing couldn't be any worse for United, with Rafael now a legitimate injury doubt for Tuesday's Champions League match against Bayern Munich. In addition, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are still on the sidelines, although both will be given late fitness tests ahead of Tuesday's match.

Rafael apologized to Manchester United fans after the team's loss Tuesday to Manchester City and insisted that the team would return to where it belongs, according to the Mirror.

Rafael has been a regular in Manchester United's back line this season, and has often been cautioned on some of his challenges. The team continues to work through its darkest season and is set for major changes this summer.

Rafael, who has an ankle injury, may be able to face Liverpool on Sunday, ESPN FC reports.

Rafael suffered his injury near the end of United's match against West Brom last weekend, but has trained enough to put himself in contention to play. He will certainly be needed against the powerful Liverpool attack, although his fantasy prospects remain low because of the opponent.

Rafael returned from an ankle injury and was credited with an assist during Saturday's 3-0 win over West Brom.

Rafael had not played since February 12 against Arsenal, and his return was surely a boost for a United squad that is still without Jonny Evans. However, his short-term fantasy value appears limited, with matches against Liverpool, West Ham, and Manchester City on the upcoming fixture list.

Rafael (concussion) will not feature in Manchester United's Champions League tie with Olympiakos on Tuesday.

Rafael was expected to return from his concussion, but he was not deemed fit enough to even make it on the bench. United are off this weekend thanks to Manchester City playing in the Capital One Cup final Saturday, so he'll have an extra week to recover.
