Rafael has overcome a groin injury and is in the starting XI for Manchester United's Premier League match against QPR on Sunday.

Rafael was not expected to be part of manager Louis van Gaal's plans for the season, but with so many questions on the back line, the Dutchman will at least see what Rafael can do against one of the weaker sides in the Premier League.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Despite returning to fitness from a groin injury, Rafael was not in the 18-man squad to face Sunderland on Sunday.

Rafael is clearly not in the plans of new manager Louis van Gaal and if he's looking for a better opportunity to play, it will likely have to come away from Old Trafford.

Rafael (groin) is unavailable for Manchester United's Premier League opener against Swansea City on Saturday.

Rafael was reportedly deemed fit following his groin injury, but he always seemed to be on the outside looking in with Louis van Gaal's plans this season, and despite numerous injuries to the back line, Rafael will stay away from the pitch Saturday.

Rafael has recovered from the groin injury he suffered during the Guinness International Champions Cup in the United States last month and he will be available for Saturday's Premier League opener against Swansea City, ESPN FC reports.

Rafael is clearly not in new manager Louis van Gaal's plans for this season, but he may be forced to put Rafael on the field due to numerous injuries throughout the team sheet, but specifically on the defensive side. Rafael is a decent weekly play if he starts, but his long-term value is limited if he stays at United.

Manchester United won another match on the tour against Roma on Saturday, and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are both in contention to replace the young Brazilian.

Rafael suffered a groin injury during Friday's training session in Denver and he will not play in Saturday's friendly against Roma, ESPN FC reports.

Rafael appears to be on the outside looking in on the starting XI this season, especially with Louis van Gaal tinkering with a possible 3-5-2 formation, starting Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans in the back. If van Gaal goes through with it, Rafael will have a significantly decreased fantasy value.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Rafael has been ruled out of Sunday's match against Everton due to a thigh injury, the club's official web site reports.

This weekend's match wasn't a great clean sheet opportunity for Rafael anyway, so his absence shouldn't bother too many fantasy teams. However, United have three straight home matches against Norwich, Sunderland and Hull City after this weekend, which are certainly more encouraging matchups for the defender, if he can return to fitness.
