Cameron will have surgery Tuesday to correct a hernia and he will be sidelined for a few weeks, the Stoke Sentinel reports.

Cameron hasn't started a Premier League game this season and it appeared that a move away from Stoke during the transfer window would be his best bet for more playing time. Unfortunately for him it didn't happen, so he'll likely be relegated to Capital One Cup matches when he's fit again.

Cameron picked up a groin strain and he will be sidelined for a few weeks, according to the club's official website. "Geoff picked the injury up on Wednesday and won't be in the squad this weekend," manager Mark Hughes said before adding that he is "likely to be out for a number of weeks."

Cameron hasn't gotten much playing time this season and a move away from Stoke may be his best bet to change that situation.

Cameron (calf) could return to Stoke's first-team against Manchester United this weekend, Sky Sports reports.

Cameron's calf injury forced him to miss the Potters' scoreless draw with West Brom last weekend, but after training during the course of this week, the American could return Saturday versus Manchester United. Given the Red Devils' stable of forwards, Stoke would certainly welcome back Cameron's defensive capabilities.

Cameron has been cleared to join Stoke City after he was granted a work permit, BBC Sport reports.

Cameron joins the Potters after playing for the Houston Dynamo of MLS. The 27-year-old brings versatility to Stoke's defense as he is capable of playing anywhere along the back line or as a defensive midfielder. Cameron's signing also adds needed depth to the Stoke defense, since the time table for Robert Huth's return from meningitis is uncertain.

Cameron scored his fourth of the season to bring Houston back even with Philadelphia in their eventual 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Cameron and the Dynamo have been a lackluster and inconsistent team this year, but thanks to last season's realignment they find themselves still alive in a pretty pitiful Eastern Conference playoff race.
