Shaqiri (calf) is not in the 18-man squad to face Manchester City on Saturday.

Shaqiri's injury apparently stems from before the Premier League opener last weekend, though he was still able to score a brilliant free kick in that match. However, manager Mark Hughes warned on Friday that Shaqiri was a doubt, so his absence shouldn't be overly surprising. Joe Allen moved into the starting XI in Shaqiri's absence, though Bojan could take over free kicks.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shaqiri faces a late fitness test ahead of Saturday's match against Manchester City because of a calf injury, manager Mark Hughes said on Friday.

Shaqiri scored a brilliant free kick during Stoke's opener last weekend, and while the calf issue is something that was bothering him before the season, it's unclear just how much time he could miss if he doesn't play Saturday. Bojan could take on free kicks if Shaqiri misses out.

Shaqiri scored a goal on a free kick and attempted four shots (one on target) in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

While on paper, Stoke's front-four is as dangerous as any with Mame Biram Diouf, Marko Arnautovic, Bojan and Shaqiri, it was an individual bit of skill from Shaqiri alone that gave the Potters a point. In the 67th minute, Shaqiri curled a free kick over the wall and into the bottom corner of the net after wasting a number of chances earlier on. After an up-and-down first season on the west coast of England, Shaqiri will look to carry his form from the Euros, where he scored a goal and added an assist in four matches for Switzerland, into his second Premier League campaign.

Shaqiri (knock) is starting on Saturday against Middlesbrough.

Shaqiri picked up the knock during Stoke's friendly against Hamburg recently, but it was never considered serious, and he'll slot right into his attacking midfield spot against the newly promoted Boro.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shaqiri is fit to play on Saturday against Hamburg after suffering a knock in a preseason friendly against Hamburg last week, according to manager Mark Hughes.

Shaqiri's injury was never considered serious, and he'll likely be in the starting XI against the newly promoted side.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shaqiri started in all four matches for Switzerland in Euro 2016. He tallied one goal on 10 shots (four on target), one assist on 29 crosses, five dribbles and nine fouls and takes his international tally to 17 goals in 56 caps. Switzerland finished 1-1 with Poland in regular and over-time of their Round of 16 clash Saturday but were knocked out of the finals after 5-4 penalty shoot-out.

Shaqiri was a solid addition to the Stoke squad last season, though, he suffered multiple injuries that reduced his overall fantasy production and were hampering his form. The 24-year-old creative midfielder, though, still had a decent production and he always brings a high upside. He finished the season with three goals, six assists and an average of 1.5 shots per game in 27 Premier League starts.

Shaqiri put in 15 crosses and scored a goal on three shots during Saturday's win over Poland.

Shaq was looking to set up teammates often Saturday, but his best contribution came on a highlight-reel overhead strike off the post an in to tie the game in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, Switzerland couldn't complete the comeback and lost in a shootout, ending his tournament with a goal and an assist to his name after four matches.

Shaqiri landed two shots on target, put in two crosses and assisted on the only goal in Saturday's win over Albania.

The attacker didn't find an incredible amount of room to operate Saturday, but his corner in the fifth minute found the head of Fabian Schar for the goal that would ultimately earn his side the three points. Shaqiri will be relied upon as one of the few viable attacking threats for the Swiss side, and he should be front and center for Wednesday's matchup versus Romania.
