Diaby (ankle) underwent surgery to his injured ankle this week and will continue to be sidelined for a while, L'Equipe reports.

Diaby last played in August and has been constantly bothered by his ankle since then. He finally agreed on a surgery, which at age 30 will probably keep him sidelined for some time. Diaby is a key cog in Marseille's midfield, though, playing as a holding midfielder he doesn't boast much fantasy upside.

Diaby is ruled out of Friday's Ligue 1 clash versus Lorient with an injury, L'Equipe reports.

Diaby was replaced during Sunday's match versus Guingamp with the ailment. The extent of the injury is still unclear. Diaby is playing as a holding midfielder and doesn't usually hold much fantasy upside and he won't be sorely missed by many fantasy owners.

Diaby agreed to a contract with Marseille on Tuesday.

Diaby was let go by Arsenal earlier this summer due to his plethora of injuries during his time in London. It's unclear what his fantasy upside is given that he hasn't played a full season in quite some time, and expecting one this year is quite naive.

Diaby (calf) played in an U-21 match Tuesday and he could be available for Saturday's match against Liverpool.

Even a fully fit Diaby is unlikely to get enough playing time to warrant much fantasy consideration, and given his recent absence, he's not an impact player any time soon.

Manager Arsene Wenger said Thursday that Diaby is not close to returning from his calf injury, and he is still able to train.

Even when Diaby is fully healthy, he is too far down the depth chart to make an impact in even the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that Diaby would be offered a new contract if he can return to full fitness, according to the Daily Mail.

Diaby has made just two appearances in the past two seasons, and last month was widely expected to be on his way out of Arsenal. He has seven months remaining on his current contract, and will be given a chance to return to playing shape before the club cuts ties.

Diaby continues to recover from a calf injury, and while he has been training, he is still a few weeks away from returning.

Even when he does reach full fitness, Diaby will remain a very limited fantasy option given his expected lack of playing time during Premier League fixtures.
