Papastathopoulos kept a clean sheet as Dortmund comfortably beat Galatasaray 4-0 Wednesday in the Champions League.

Papastathopoulos played in the rather unfamiliar position of left-back following last weekend's injury to Erik Durm. He was successful in the role, looking solid and making the best attempt to go forward when he could. However he did look a bit sluggish as he has for several games now, Papastathopoulos visibly suffering in his team's recent slump. That said, the experiment of Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic in the middle of defense and Papastathopoulos and Lukasz Piszczek as full-backs looked pretty solid overall and Jurgen Klopp may well choose to go with the same back four Saturday when Dortmund entertain Hannover.

Papastathopoulos was unconvincing in a poor Dortmund defense as Dortmund slumped to a 2-1 defeat Saturday against FC Köln.

Papastathopoulos hasn't been in great form of late and another lacklustre display helped contribute to Dortmund's fifth defeat in eight games. The Greek international was often slow and struggled with Köln's pacey counter-attacks. He was also booked and carelessly lost marker Kevin Vogt for Köln's first goal. Papastathopoulos must improve on this static performance and certainly is not guaranteed a start next time out.

Papastathopoulos failed to keep a clean sheet and was booked as he played the full 90 minutes Saturday in Dortmund's 1-0 loss to Hamburg.

It wasn't a terrible display by the Greek but he certainly played his part in the defeat to the Bundesliga's basement club. Papastathopolous has been consistent this season but found the going tough against Hamburg's energetic attack. He was too easily beaten by Nicolai Müller in the build-up to the goal, was often static and was cautioned early on. He did show some composure however, and always looked to pass the ball out of defense rather than panic. Whether he keeps his starting place is questionable, with Neven Subotic being left out this time around in an attempt to shake up a sluggish defense, Papastathopolous may well suffer the same fate in the next game against Köln.

Papastathopoulos returned to the starting line-up and kept a clean sheet as Dortmund beat Anderlecht 3-0 Wednesday in Champions League Group D.

The Greek defender returned to first team action and his selection was justified as he put in a typically solid performance. He did struggle with Anderlecht striker Matias Suarez's speed at times but as the game went on he became a rock in the heart of the Dortmund defence. Papastathopoulos was recently benched with Mats Hummels' high-profile return but with Hummels still getting back to full fitness and other centre back Neven Subotic having several unconvincing games lately, he may well force himself back into the team on a regular basis.

Papastathopoulos was part of a poor defensive display by Dortmund that leaked two goals Wednesday in a 2-2 draw with Stuttgart.

Despite being reliable in an otherwise inconsistent team this season, Papastathopoulos, like many of the Dortmund players, struggled against a spirited Stuttgart side. He was characteristically hard-working and broke-up play effectively but also managed to get booked and not form a cohesive unit with his fellow defenders. Expect him to start in the next game with Mats Hummels still lacking match sharpness, but a prolonged run in the starting line-up is by no means guaranteed.

Papastathopoulos scored one minute into stoppage time to help Greece extend Sunday's round of 16 World Cup match against Costa Rica, although the Greeks eventually fell 5-3 in penalties.

Costa Rica went down to 10 men with 24 minutes remaining, but Papastathopoulos' goal came seconds before the final whistle. Unfortunately, the Greeks couldn't break through again in extra time, leaving Papastathopoulos a little break before his season starts up again with Borussia Dortmund.

Papastathopoulos passed a prematch fitness test ahead of Saturday's World Cup match against Colombia, and he was able to play all 90 minutes, while picking up a yellow card.

Despite being fit to play, Papastathopoulos could not do enough on his own to limit the Colombians, who put three on the board by the time it was over.

Papasathopoulos (muscle) will undergo a prematch fit test before Greece's match against Colombia on Saturday, reports Sky Sports. He missed Greece's final two tune-up matches ahead of the start of the World Cup and is uncertain to be fit for Colombia.

Papastathopoulos is a key member of the Greek defense and will certainly be missed if he is unable to play.
