Luiz has been ruled out for at least four weeks after suffering a thigh injury during Sunday's win over Marseille, Sky Sports reports.

The injury comes at a terrible time for PSG, as Luiz will miss both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal tie with Barcelona, as well as the French Cup final and league cup semifinal. He was instrumental in taking down Chelsea in the Round of 16 and will leave a big hole in the center of defense alongside Thiago Silva.

Luiz scored his first Ligue 1 goal in the 30th minute of PSG's 4-2 win over Evian on Sunday.

Luiz, who was named to the 2014 FIFA FIFPro World XI earlier this week, also had four tackles, two interceptions and five clearances in the match. He creates a solid defensive pairing with Thiago Silva, though PSG have recorded only three clean sheets in league play since early November.

Luiz scored in the 10th minute of Paris Saint-Germain's 3-2 Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday.

Luiz was hardly expected to grab a clean sheet against Barcelona on Tuesday, but the goal, which came from a free kick from Lucas Moura and not from one of his signature free kicks, was a welcome sign for fantasy owners. After grabbing three clean sheets to start the Ligue 1 season, Luiz has just one in his last three games.

Luiz started and played all 90 minutes of PSG's 2-0 win over Bastia on Saturday, registering a clean sheet in his club debut.

PSG spent 50 million to bring Luiz in from Chelsea and he will be heavily relied upon to help keep opponents out of the net. With Thiago Silva sidelined for a few weeks with a hamstring injury, Luiz's importance only grows.

Luiz scored off a free kick in the 69th minute of Brazil's 2-1 win over Colombia in the quarterfinals of the World Cup on Friday.

Luiz has now scored in back-to-back matches for Brazil, after he netted against Mexico in the quarterfinals. Despite the goal, his defensive abilities will be heavily tested against Germany in the semifinals, as Brazil will be without Thiago Silva, who picked up his second yellow card of the tournament Friday.

Paris Saint-Germain announced Friday that Luiz has signed a five-year contract with the club after transferring from Chelsea.

PSG did not announce the fee paid, although it was believed to be worth up to 50 million, a record fee paid for a defensive player. He is a versatile defender who can play in the midfield as well, making him a promising fantasy pick.
