RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Tiote (knee) has been ruled out of this weekend's match against Chelsea, but manager Steve McClaren hopes to have him back in full training on Monday.

Tiote has struggled to find match fitness, coming off the bench twice this season for a total of 34 minutes in the Premier League. He hasn't played at all since Aug. 25 when he played the full-90 against Northampton Town in the Capital One Cup. Tiote's presence at holding midfielder helps the Magpies be more aggressive in the middle of the park and should help settle the rocky start they've gotten off to.

Tiote suffered a knee injury during the Africa Cup of Nations, and he could miss the rest of the season, the Newcastle Chronicle reports.

Tiote is set to undergo additional scans on his knee, with initial fears that he could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks, which all but rules him out for the remainder of Premier League play. He was unable to play in the AFCON final last Sunday due to the injury, and he may have played his last game for Newcastle, as he has been the subject of numerous transfer rumors through the past few windows.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Tiote was brought on in the 45th minute of Newcastle's 0-4 loss to Southampton on Saturday.

Tiote wasn't able to stop the bleeding as the Newcastle defense looked terrible all match. The Ivorian should help tighten things up defensively, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect much offensive production from Tiote.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Tiote played twice for Côte d'Ivoire during the international break, and is expected to be back in manager Alan Pardew's starting XI for Newcastle's trip to Southampton on Saturday.

Tiote, a defensive enforcer, doesn't score many fantasy points himself, but his presence will improve the Toon defense, creating a slight boost in value for Tim Krul, and the Newcastle defenders.
